Last Sunday, my partner and I went to a concert by the most incredible musical group of performers called Dastaan Live. The kind of learning and insight I had just by listening to their music was invaluable. They performed in the most innovative of ways. They took the most exquisite couplets of Saint Kabir and turned them into dazzling, magical songs. Laced with a flavour of jazz and blended in a fusion of Indian Rock music, they created the most enthralling experience for everyone. In today’s episode I talk about one of the songs they sang. This is one of my most loved couplets of Kabir. This is where Kabir talks about transcending religion, transcending norms and regulations, moving beyond the idea of a fixed solid way of living and existence, and giving up ‘our fixation with one singular, unquestionable way of experiencing the divine.’ Because the truth is, there is no one singular, unquestionable way for anything. Not for God, not for Business. The idea of HOW is a myth. There are always multiple HOWs and not all HOWs can be broken down into steps. Sometimes, we cannot define the HOW, but we can certainly define and aspire to the goal. Giving up the HOW is hence a spiritual process of letting go of our doubts and fears.
